Just take the first step…

This has been frequently echoed by those who have already achieved success. But let’s be real, taking the first step is not a silver bullet to success; rather, it’s just a declaration about something that we want for ourselves, and that would be MORE, right? To do that, we need to see our value first, we need to believe that we deserve more — that leads to confidence.

Today, I want to delve deep into what a first step looks like in light of confidence. Let’s learn how to cultivate it, nurture it, and leverage it to our advantage. So buckle up as we explore the secrets to generating ultimate confidence!

Breakfree from  Comparison by Tracking Your Wins

The first step on our journey to unwavering confidence is liberating ourselves from the shackles of others’ opinions. One surefire way to drain our confidence is by constantly comparing ourselves to others, especially on social media platforms like Instagram for example. This habit of measuring ourselves against an ideal often leads to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt.

Recently, I stumbled upon a game-changing book titled “The Gap and the Gain” by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy. It emphasizes the importance of living in the gain rather than the gap. The gap refers to measuring yourself against an ideal as opposed to measuring yourself against what’s actually happening, and the progress that you’ve actually made. Living in the gain means focusing on your actual progress and celebrating your daily wins instead of fixating on an unattainable ideal. To put this into practice, I recommend using the “WINS” tool – jot down three wins you achieved each day and three you aim for tomorrow. This simple exercise cultivates a sense of momentum and confidence, propelling us forward on our journey, allowing us to focus more on ourselves and less on what other people are doing.

Ask for Advice from an Expert or Improve Your Self-talk

It’s crucial to seek advice from people with expertise in the areas we’re exploring. Consulting the right mentors ensures we receive valuable guidance tailored to our specific goals, safeguarding our confidence from misguided advice. Really, there’s nothing worse than asking somebody to weigh in on something they don’t know anything about.

Another essential aspect of boosting confidence is improving our self-talk. By consciously shaping a positive narrative about ourselves, we can cultivate a mindset of self-belief and resilience. Let’s replace self-critical thoughts with affirmations of progress and capability, becoming our own cheerleaders on the path to success.

We must be our own support system. We don’t need to rely on anyone else to uplift us, it is our job to do this for ourselves. It’s within our power to do so ourselves and it begins right here.

Embrace Failures and Practice Gratitude Through a Changed Perspective

What if we shifted our perspectives on failure and began to understand its role in propelling us forward? Failure is just a part of life, it’s part of our experiences and the more that we fail, the more that we’re probably doing better with life, right? Let us embrace it as a stepping stone towards our goals. We really don’t even need to use the word failure, we can just call it learning, right?

Some of the most successful individuals I watch aren’t scared to fail because they know that it’s part of a journey to success, and I wholeheartedly agree. Failures serve as invaluable learning opportunities. By reframing setbacks as chances for growth rather than impassable barriers, we empower ourselves to persist and develop with confidence.

Practicing gratitude is another powerful tool for enhancing confidence. By acknowledging and appreciating the blessings in our lives, we cultivate a mindset of abundance and resilience, reinforcing our belief in our capabilities.

Whenever I need to remind myself of the gratitude that is all around us, I watch Grateful Day by Brother David. It’s one of my go-to’s whenever I need to feel more gratitude. I watch it, I listen to his voice and I revel in the video that is shared while he is talking.

Remember a quote by Zig Ziglar, “The more that we are grateful for what we have, the more that we will have something to be grateful about.”

Expand in Knowledge and Develop a Confident Mindset

Another way to boost our confidence is to keep feeding our minds.  I’ve been resourcing some Tony Robbins work. I’ve done some courses with him and if you see him speak, he’s such a confident person, he believes in what he says and I think one of the keys to do that is to make sure that we are constantly learning.

Acquiring new skills, whether through online courses or self-study, broadens our horizons and instills a sense of competence and self-assurance. It makes us relate with others and it deflects us from feeling less confident about ourselves.

Another area that I want to touch on is the belief in ourselves. How can we firm up our beliefs in ourselves? How can we believe more? How can we increase the faith in ourselves? The Power of Awareness by Neville Goddard is one of the resources I always go to. Here’s one big thing that I learned in his book “…the easiest way to become more confident is to assume that you already are. Then live by faith in that assumption.”

If you see me, you would probably say that I’m super confident but let me confess something. There are times when I don’t know things. I don’t know everything, definitely not but I keep learning and I keep telling myself “I have ultimate confidence.” You see, we can manifest confidence and just by doing what Neville says, just live in the assumption that you are confident and then all of a sudden…you are!

I think confident people are some of the most amazing people. They are limitless and boundless. They are aware of who they are, what they want and the things that they value.

Let me share a quote I made up as I was creating this podcast episode. “Self-confidence is not  just to be perceived by others. It’s self serving…intentionally.” What that means to me is that confidence is there to serve me. It’s not just for others to see in me and admire, it is meant to allow me to use confidence to benefit my experience. Confidence can give you freedom.

I build my confidence because it brings me closer to my goals. It allows me to live in a state of happiness and gratitude. It’s what I want and it’s what I want for you.

Remember, confidence is not merely about how others perceive us; it’s about self-empowerment and self-fulfillment. By embracing confidence as a personal journey of growth and self-discovery, we unlock our true potential and soar to new heights of success and fulfillment.  If you want to kickstart your confidence journey, Freedom Culture is the best place to be.
